In this review, we’re going to take a look at a seat that distinguishes itself from the others by the level of adjustments available, the quality, and user experience: this is our Steelcase Leap Chair review!
Steelcase Leap Chair Review: Unique Features
Whether you find yourself behind the desk for long hours or you’re a weekend warrior, you need a comfortable recliner to sit in. While you may be tempted to rush out and purchase the first chair you see, you need to take a few things into consideration.
This seat distinguishes itself from others by offering an assortment of possible adjustments. While this may be a blessing for some, it can be potentially frustrating or even overwhelming when you’re first trying to find the right combination of adjustments. However, owners are pleased with how easy it is to make the adjustments. You don’t have to get up and bend over to adjust any of the settings. Here the Leap’s unique features:
There are a number of features that make the Steelcase Leap Chair the best gaming chair, but one of the most notable is the Liveback Technology. Steelcase acknowledges that everyone’s spine is different and as a result of many tests and studies they’ve discovered that everyone’s spine moves differently regardless of age, height, and gender. The innovative company responded with the creation of Liveback Technology.
LiveBack Technology adjusts to any back type – from the perfectly flat to the absurdly curved.
This modern feature enables you to customize your user experience by adjusting a series of levers, knobs and paddles. We’ll touch more on those in the next section.
Comfort can either make or break the deal. Your typical run of the mill seat is extremely limited in terms of possible adjustments. Oftentimes you can only adjust the seat height and the recline feature.
While these basic features may be adequate for some, if you’re an office professional who depends on a comfortable chair for long office hours or even a gaming enthusiast, you’re going to need a higher level of support. This is where the Leap stands above the competition.
You can adjust Leap’s armrests in multiple ways
While armrests may seem like a moot point with chairs; we hardly notice them until we need them, but when you do need them, you’ll quickly appreciate how you can adjust the arm rests with a click of a button located near the armrest. Leap’s armrests can be adjusted in multiple ways which certainly adds to its overall ergonomic value.
Flexible Seat Edge
A flexible seat edge is a must to avoid interruptions to blood flow towards your legs. Although not adjustable, Leap’s seat edge is flexible and does not exert any unwanted pressure towards the back of our legs whenever we recline or lean forward.
Seat Height and Depth Adjustment
This is a basic feature that nearly all office chairs come with. The Steelcase Leap enables you to adjust the height of the chair with a lever located on the right side of the chair.
The ergonomic office chair also enables you to adjust the seat depth in order to provide lower back support and so you can avoid the uncomfortable pain associated with long hours of sitting. You can find the adjustment lever on the left side. Simply push up and adjust as needed.
Lower Back Firmness and Backstop Feature
On its right side, located by the lower back portion of the chair is a dial that you can use to adjust the firmness of lower lumbar support. Small handles are located on the sides of your backrest so you can adjust the level of support for your lower back. Pull both simultaneously and lean forward as you adjust the backrest to your liking.
Experts recommend reclining frequently to encourage work productivity and to reduce fatigue. You can do this easily by clicking the backstop paddle which will customize your chair’s recline. You can also adjust the tension you experience when you lean back into your chair, by turning the knob near the paddle. Adjusting the knob backwards will reduce the resistance while moving the knob forward will increase the resistance.
Multiple Color Variations
Depending on where your office seat will be located, you’ll find the attractive design will look great with the rest of your office furniture. At the moment, you can choose from any of the five color options below:
The Leap comes in 5 colors: Burgundy, Black, Camel, Gray, and Navy
The fabric material for the Steelcase Leap is constructed from a low maintenance and durable material. Few owners have reported any wear and tear, especially in areas that are susceptible to tearing (the seat edge for instance).
While the Leap offers 5 attractive color fabrics to choose from, we’re disappointed with the absence of a leather material option. Leather has the ability to upgrade any room’s appearance by adding an air of sophistication and luxury. Unfortunately, leather can be difficult to maintain and is more susceptible to wear and tear such as cracks. However, if you’re busy with other tasks, you’re probably not going to have much time to clean and polish a leather chair.
The Leap has a Cradle-to-Cradle product certification from MBDC and also has a SCS Indoor Advantage certification for indoor air quality. It’s also 94% recyclable. When you use a Steelcase product, you’re basically doing Mother Nature a favor just by sitting and playing.
- Most adjustable chair we’ve come across so far. The amount of thought put into this gaming seat is just amazing.
- Multiple color variations to choose from so the chair can blend well in any work or gaming setup.
- In for the long haul. We haven’t heard or read a lot of complaints about the Leap breaking in a couple of months.
- Made of recyclable and recycled materials so you’re doing Mother Nature a favor as well.
- Upholstery is limited to fabric. We would have loved our butts to experience a leather finish.
- First time users may find it frustrating and overwhelming to find the perfect chair setup because there are so many adjustable parts.
- Not as “gaming chair-looking” like DX Racer chairs and may put off some serious gamers.
Our Steelcase Leap Chair review found out that beyond the few drawbacks that can take some time to get accustomed to, Leap is the most comfortable chair for the serious office warrior who works long hours, or even the gaming enthusiast who wants to perform their best.
It doesn’t look and feel as “game-y” like DX Racer or Maxnomic chairs, but given the level of customizable adjustments and the price, the ergonomic chair is an incredible value for anyone who demands quality and comfort in their next gaming chair.
