serta office chair review

If you work hard and play hard, the Serta 43809 – and it’s sibling 44955 – are two models that will suit your gaming and workstation setup perfectly.

Relative to the chairs we already reviewed, both 43809 and 44955 sit dab smack in the middle of the price range, but the price is certainly justified by the amount of features, comfort, and style it brings to the table. Read more about our Serta Office Chair review below.

Serta Office Chair Review: Features

Air Lumbar Technology

pivoting air technology

Upon closer inspection, the backrest of this gaming chair is really pronounced. This is actually one of Serta’s main feature called AIR Lumbar Technology.

Air Technology is a unique feature with your spinal health in mind. The entire backrest has the ability to twist and flex to your movement, allowing your body to achieve a positive neutral position, while the lumbar zone or lower back area is contoured and adjustable, giving you plenty of lower back support options.

The AIR Tech makes it harder for you to strain your back muscles and also minimizes the risk of getting injured due to pro-longed sitting. There are also layered body pillows placed on areas that need the most cushioned support. Basically AIR Tech is lumbar support on steroids.

Unlike most leather upholstery, this gaming and work chair also allows for proper air-circulation on your back. Serta would be a good choice for you if you’re the type that sweats buckets during intense matches or you just hate the feeling of mesh fabric on your back.

Ergonomic Controls

pneumatic controls

Although not as feature-packed as some higher-end models like the Steelcase or Herman Miller, the Serta office chair also delivers when it comes to ergonomic controls.

Seat-side levers are easy to reach and allow for tilt and height adjustments on the fly. Pneumatic lift, on the other hand, offers lock-out and adjustable tension controls so you’re always on the best sitting position possible.

The armrests are not adjustable so that could be a minor issue for you, but they are padded though and feel comfortable.

Caster Wheels

Serta’s casters are pretty big at 60 mm which gives the entire chair smooth stability as well as the ability to fare well with carpets.

The entire base is fortified and can accommodate people up to 350 lbs in weight which also explains why the seat has a lot of wiggle room as compared to chairs in its price range.

Design

waterfall design and contoured armrests

We’re a bit torn about Serta’s design. On one hand, it looks really professional and would go well with any office or gaming design. But sometimes, we look at it and think it’s too professional that our gaming room would look more like an accountant or lawyer’s office.

The actual design, upon closer inspection, is actually pretty neat. The upholstery is made from smooth bonded leather and the arms are even hand-sculpted and upholstered as well.

The waterfall seat edge also allow for proper blood-circulation on the legs, although sometimes the design can feel like we’re falling of the seat. I do think it’s just a matter of preference and getting used to, consider I have been used to sitting on hard-edged chairs.

Overall, the design screams well-made from top to bottom and the price – which does cost you a bit of fortune – is one hundred percent justified.

Pros

  • The ergonomic features work pretty well and emphasizes support on the back area. If you have an injured back or a weak back like me, this chair is a good choice.
  • Other ergonomic features are mediocre at best, but they do the job.
  • The design is pretty solid and doesn’t scream cheap.

Cons

  • Some reviews mention of screws getting loose that need to be tightened frequently.
  • The lumbar support is not for everyone – some reviews mention of the lumbar support pushing way to far resulting in uncomfortable sitting positions.
  • The chair looks like it’s intended for bigger or heavier persons.

Verdict

If your gaming room is also your work room, Serta’s would be the perfect chair for you! It’s not as luxurious as Steelcase and it’s not as affordable as Flash Furniture, but if you’re looking for something that’s dab smack in the middle of everything, this chair is for you.
